Introduction

Hakuba Trails returns after a one-year-break following landslides due to heavy rain in autumn 2018. The event offers a scenic and spicy 53 km course with 2800 metres of elevation gain (in 2018). As you can see from the images below, the race takes place in the mountains. Several rivers need to be crossed as well. About 1700 runners are expected to take part in the event that also offers three shorter distances to cater for the whole family. The first start is at 7:00 a.m. and the COT for the 53km is 10 hours, which does imply participants need to move on during the race.

The nearest city to Hakuba is Nagano, host city of the Winter Olympics in 1998.

International gateway

Fly into Tokyo is probably the best choice for international runners. From Tokyo, you can take shinkansen trains towards the Japan Alps. Nagano will be your base.
