Cameron Ultra opens priority registration on 1 Feb

Cameron Ultra has been confirmed to take place on 16/17 July this year and the popular Malaysian event is opening a priority registration next week on 1 February for runners who had registered for the 2020 edition, which was cancelled due to the corona situation. As it happens, Cameron Ultra is a newcomer on the ATM Championship calendar, and we are looking very much forward to this year’s first edition in which runners can score points for the ATM Championship and the qualification to enter the Malaysian Team for the ATM Final in December. The 2020 registered runners can enjoy a discount when signing up for this year. The regular registration will open one month later in March, subject to available spots after the priority registration period.

ATM contenders and Grandmaster Quest runners need to focus on the 100 km race distance category, as that’s the one that matters at Cultra.

The 100 km flagship race has 4480 hm and needs to be conquered within 29 hours. All details can be found on the official website below.

EcoTrail AlUla in Saudi Arabia on 19 March

EcoTrail AlUla returns for its second edition on 18/19 March, and the 80k longest distance category is again a points race for the Asia Trail Master Championship! The branded event in Saudi Arabia takes place in a truly iconic and mysterious location in the northwest of the country. It’s a rocky desert race that is mostly runable, but a large canyon section will please the technical trail lovers, too.

The inaugural edition in February 2020 saw just over 600 runners spread out over three race distance categories. Covid resulted in a two-year-hiatus, but the event is back with even more ambition for the second edition. The routes have been redesigned in significant parts and extra categories have been added. The 80 km will have just under 1000m of elevation gain and a cut-off time of 12h30. All runners should be back in the finish before darkness in other words.

EcoTrail® was founded in Paris for the purpose of promoting and organizing trail running races in urban environments. In light of this success, Run For You has decided to develop the concept in the form of partnerships with local players in other countries worldwide ( destinations in Europe & Asia). The project comes from the desire to offer to AlUla and their surroundings a true ecoresponsible, close to nature race, accessible to all, highlighting the cultural and natural character of this region with respect of the nature and promotion of Trail-Running.

The 2020 race was won by American T8 ambassador Michael Wardian and saw 2017 ATM Champion Steven Ong from Malaysia in third place. The women’s race went to Jordan-based American Amy Sproston, who stayed ahead of 2018 ATM Champion Ruth Theresia from Indonesia.

Registrations are open via alula.ecotrail.com . On the official website you can also find details about travel packages for the event, as well as info regarding visa (tourist visas are quite easy to apply for online).

Ruth Theresia had a fine run in AlUla two years ago, reaching the finish in second place

Trung Nguyen came 5th in 2020, one of his fine results that gave him the ATM points lead during the, eventially, cancelled 2020/21 Championship season

Welcome to BUTM!

We are pleased to announce that Borneo Ultra Trail Marathon, better known as BUTM, is joining the 2022 Asia Trail Master Championship calendar on 19/20 March. The younger sister of TMBT was probably the very last event that took place before the first round of lockdowns in Asia two years ago, and is firmly scheduled to take place in Kiulu (Sabah) in two months’ time. Event organiser Claus Pedersen does add that a number of measures and restrictions will still need to be adhered to, however, but registration is open!

Both the 109 km and 54 km race category options are included and offer ATM Championship points on 19 and 20 March. The 109 km is also valid for the Grandmaster Quest. Spots are limited, so do not hesitate too long with signing up. BUTM will be the first Malaysian points race of the new 2022 season. At the end of last year, local Sabahan and new star Wilsen Singgin crowned himself Malaysia Trail Master Champion at MMTF. Singgin is expected to run at BUTM, and will undoubtedly be cheered by all his fans.

All courses have start and finish at the riverside at Pekan Kiulu. As the official website reads, the present route description may still be subject to final optimization based on final testing and any requirements in relation to Covid-19 risk management.
